CPE program consists of 4-5 quarters of in-person or online group instruction, including 1600-2100 hours of training and supervision.
Board Certification requires in-person or videoconferencing with a certification board of peer reviewers and a competency assessment.
Those credentialed by WSHO can receive designation of either “Pastoral/Spiritual Psychotherapist” or “Pastoral Counselor.”
A Certified CPE Supervisor/Trainer offers an opportunity to lead groups of CPE students pursuing chaplaincy.
WSHO members in good standing are required to complete an annual re-assessment with critical ongoing education.
WSHO is committed to honoring chaplains of our Armed Forces, including active duty, reserves and Guard, and retired or former military chaplains, by helping them make the transition from military to civilian chaplaincy. We offer veterans an accelerated CPE program, followed by board certification if desired, that gives advance credit for your years of chaplain military training and service.

We sustain chaplains professionally and emotionally through small chapter groups which provide support and accountability.
We help members excel through ongoing learning via symposiums, peer-to-peer reviews, and special speaker events.
The WSHO Clinical Pastoral Education program incorporates a dynamic hybrid of classical and contemporary modalities that are flexible and user-friendly for working adults and those seeking a new career as a chaplain. Customized CPE programs within hospital settings and other institutions are also available.
